The other evening after seeing Superbird A (89-041A, 20040) 
do its main thing, after it got pretty faint as seen in Mike's 
telescope, I was seeing *faint* maxima every quarter-cycle 
(about 5.6 seconds).  This was a few minutes after 3:35 Dec 15 
UTC.  Maybe this relates to Don Gardner's phantom surface?
