    You're not going to see it from NY. It will be too low and in daylight, below
    200,000ft over Chicago. Slim chance of seeing it anywhere along the path but the
    sonic boom will be audible all along the path from British Columbia if you are
    within about 50 miles of the path. I have heard it as far west as Seattle.
    The trail it leaves is not a "smoke trail" that reflects sunlight but rather a
    glowing ionized plasma trail that is too faint to see in daylight.
