Marco, your memoriam is excellent. I do not recall ever seeing Pierre's "Dernier photo de Spoutnik 2," before now. He took it just 6 hours before it decayed over the Caribbean, the first ever re-entry to be witnessed. In Tapestry of Orbits, p.42, King-Hele mentioned that this pass had been widely observed from Britain. Pierre identified a large number of satellite re-entry sightings, one of the many skills he developed.
