    646 POUNDS. IT IS SPIN STABILIZED AT 15 RPM. IT'S GENERAL GEOMETRY
    IS A CYLINDER ORIENTED ALONG THE SPIN AXIS AND FOUR SOLAR WINGS
    PERPENDICULAR TO THE SPIN AXIS.
    
    B. THE PEGASUS XL 3RD STAGE ROCKET BODY IS APPROXIMATELY 52.7 INCHES
    IN LENGTH AND 38.0 INCHES IN DIAMETER (CYLINDRICAL) WITH A MASS OF
    446 LBS AND IS NOT STABILIZED.
    
    LAUNCH VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:
    THE PEGASUS XL IS A 3 STAGE SOLID ROCKET MOTOR VEHICLE DROPPED FROM A
    LOCKHEED L-1011 AIRCRAFT. THE OVERALL LENGTH IS 16.895 M, DIAMETER OF
    1.3 M, AND A MASS OF 22816.08 KG. THE THREE PEGASUS ROCKET MOTORS
    ARE HTPB 88 PERCENT CLASS 1.3 PROPELLANT. THE THIRD STAGE CONTAINS
    A REACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PROPELLED BY 2000 PSI NITROGEN WITH 2 COLD
    GAS ROCKET ENGINE MODULES CONSISTING OF THREE THRUSTERS EACH.
    
    MISSION NARRATIVE:
    THE HIGH ENERGY SOLAR SPECTROSCOPIC IMAGER (HESSI) IS PART OF NASA'S
    SMALL EXPLORER (SMEX) SERIES. HESSI WILL INVESTIGATE THE PHYSICS OF
    PARTICLE ACCELERATION AND ENERGY RELEASE IN SOLAR FLARES, OBSERVING
    X-RAY AND GAMMA RAY EMISSIONS WITH HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGING AND
