    Thankyou for the replies.

I saw a green flash a few years ago as the sun set behind a distant hill in
Cornwall, and it can't possibly be confused with a meteor. It certainly
didn't cross the sky - it occupied a tiny area where the limb of the sun
    dipped below the horizon.

It's just sounds like people are fumbling for an explanation because no-one
with any authority actually saw it! The timing does tie in with local
sunset, which gives the idea credibility, but would so many people in
different locations all see a green flash? It sounds odd to me, but then
    stranger things have happened!

    Regards,
    Andy Smith.
