Thanks Jeff. It seems that there is no simple answer to my question. 
Mir is a very complex shape and could be oriented in all kinds of 
different ways with respect to an observer on the ground. The 
brightness perceived by an observer could therefore be quite 
unpredictable and may well vary from pass to pass.
