    Actually, it's the other likely spelling - after Arthur C. Clarke who 
    first proposed the idea of using geostationary satellites for 
    communications relays in the February 1945 issue of Wireless World 
    magazine.  No, I haven't read this letter though it would be quite fun
    to find it in a library somewhere - but refer you to his book "How the 
    World Was One" amongst other references on the subject.
    
    Same chap as what wrote 2001 with Stanley Kubrick plus a lot of other
    stuff.
