As a purely visual observer, my first reaction to this thread was piqued ambivalence. However, I have stepped back and considered that identification of stealthy birds by imaging or radio is useful for the hobby. A separate list might be in order, with cross communication where useful, as we have now with Hearsat. I don't know that the traffic currently justifies that solution, but that time may soon come.

On the issue of demanding raw image data to support conclusions drawn from images, it seems that this same argument has been going on, without definitive resolution, since the first astrophotographs. There have always been those who say "show us the negatives" and, from what I've watched my daughter do professionally with image processing, I can see the reasons why.

I can speak to my own experience with visual data. Seesat has used my data, ignored my data, corrected my data, and provided a resource by which I execute an important subset of my general observing program. This is not meant to be a invective statement; rather, it is what it is. If Ted or Mike don't like my data, or use it in a way I disagree with, or question its veracity or accuracy, I am perfectly free to use my data to derive my own conclusions (e.g. TLEs) or quit posting here, or perhaps the best solution, go outside and try to see the object again and prove I was right. I have the luxury and curse of there being no way to compellingly dispute (or corroborate) my visual experience.

Incidentally, some ideas for the name of a new list might include (j/k):

    Imagine-Sat (oops)
    Shoot-Sat (no, no)

    Photoshop-Sat
    See-See-D-Sat

What can I say, its cloudy.
