Hi all, Some of you might be interested in this article I just published in the web-journal 'The Space Review': "Kosmos 482: questions around a failed Venera lander from 1972 still orbiting Earth (but not for long)" https://www.thespacereview.com/article/4384/1 The Kosmos 482 'Descent Craft' is a piece of hardware from a failed Soviet-era Venera mission, that got stuck in Earth Orbit. Several objects from this launch have reentered long ago, but one piece is still in earth orbit and will come down within a few years from now. In recent years some suggestions were made about the character of this object. I think I have compelling arguments that it is the lander module only, not a substantial larger piece of Venera hardware. Will make for an interesting reentry somewhere 2024-2026, as this is a lander capsule built to withstand atmospheric reentry. - Marco ----- Dr Marco Langbroek - SatTrackCam Leiden, the Netherlands. e-mail: sattrackcam_at_langbroek.org launchtower: http://launchtower.langbroek.org Station (b)log: http://sattrackcam.blogspot.com Twitter: _at_Marco_Langbroek ----- _______________________________________________ Seesat-l mailing list http://mailman.satobs.org/mailman/listinfo/seesat-lReceived on Wed May 18 2022 - 05:26:20 UTC
