Hi All, Just used the post-OMS elements to see STS-92 make a nice high pass over the Los Angeles metropolitan area around 7:22pm PDT (2:22 UT, Thursday 12 October) this evening. Easily reached magnitude -2 before entering the earth's penumbra, at which point it became very noticeably red. I dragged four fellow employees out into the parking lot to see the fly-by, and they were all impressed with both the brightness and angular speed. I had warned them to watch for the color change at shadow entry, and they all noticed the transition from Vega-color (Vega was nearby) to that of Antares. All in all it was quite exciting to see the Shuttle here in California so soon after launch from the Cape!
