I just came in from observing (naked eye) Mir around 11:33 UT
on 9 Sep 99.  I did not notice any unusual magnitude fluctuations.

It did start to dim as it approached Jupiter to the point it was
slightly brighter than Saturn and continued dimming as it moved
southeast.  It seemed it should have been brighter longer but that
perception is only because it is probably in a free drift mode...
not that I know from previous obs that it MUST have been brighter.
